LLB (Hons) - An Overview

The professionally accredited LLB (Hons) Law is uniquely placed by giving students the opportunity to observe law in action from their very first year, through the award-winning Legal Advice Center. While the study of law prepares you for a career in the legal profession, it also develops vital personal skills in teamwork, communication, writing and time management, so that you are more than ready to face the challenges of a range of careers should you decide that law isn't for you.

LJMU is one of very few law schools currently offering a qualification in Law, which combines a range of unique features, such as our student mentoring scheme, and our active student law society, which will provide you with excellent ways to develop future employment opportunities and learn variety of disciplines including Contract Law, Public Law, Criminal Law and Human Rights Law to include some.

Programme Structure, Course catalogue and Specifications

The academic team is made up of solicitors, barristers, former police officers, commercial professionals and academics, giving you a solid grounding in all aspects of the law. You will be taught in a mixture of large and small groups led by our experienced tutors. You will also be expected to study independently with tutor support.

You will study 18 courses over a period of three years to earn the Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons.) degree.

Assessment Methods

Each Module of LLB (Hons) programme is assessed using a mix of coursework and examination. As a general principle, approximately 75% of the assessments will be via coursework submission, and 25% by examination. However, this percentage may vary for different modules.
Coursework
The coursework is usually due at the end of the semester. Coursework may consist of essay, report and/or presentations.
Examination
Where a written exam is part of the assessment method of a module, the written examinations will take place at the end of semester.

To be eligible for the degree, you must:

  • Age 17+ by 30 November in the year of registration.
  • A Levels with minimum 120 UCAS points in A’ Level
    or
    26 IB Points
    or
    BTEC Business awards (provided grade DMM or above is achieved)
    or
    any other relevant high school qualifications
  • Provide proof of competence in English by having UK GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level at grade C. Otherwise a test of proficiency may be required.
  • Each application will be considered on an individual basis, and the decision will be taken at the discretion of the Liverpool John Moores University.

As an accredited qualifying degree this LLB (Hons) in Law provides the essential academic training required to become a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, allowing you to progress directly onto the Legal Practice Course or the Bar Professional Training Course.
The qualification is Recognized by the Pakistan Bar Council and provides opportunities for Progression to Bar-at-Law / LLM in UK.
